Elgeyo Marakwet governor Alex Tolgos is worried after claims that outspoken senator Kipchumba Murkomen is putting spanners into the works to have him impeached.
In a press release, Tolgos said Murkomen is planning for his impeachment through the county assembly after he publicly mentioned that corruption proceeds of Arror and Kimwarer dams’ scandal were being used to fund political activities in the county.
According to sources, Murkomen recently held a secret meeting with a number of MCAs where the impeachment deal was mooted.
Money is said to have exchanged hands with even Uhuru Kenyatta succession featuring hotly with the governor being accused of now joining anti-William Ruto Kalenjin crusade led by Gideon Moi, CCM forces of Isaac Ruto, tycoons David Langat, former PS Zachayo
Cheruiyot, Zedekiah Buzeki, Silas Simwuto and Henry Kosgey’s family.
“I absolutely have no problem speaking for the great people of Elgeyo Marakwet and if by mentioning Arror and Kimwarer proceeds makes me be impeached by MCAs, then this is a sacrifice I am ready to take in the best interest of the people and I will never be cowed anyway.”
Tolgos accused Murkomen of pulling the strings at the Elgeyo Marakwet county assembly with an aim of creating disharmony for purposes of selfish political interests.
The governor added: “After all, if I am to go home today, my development record speaks for itself and what I have achieved for the last seven years will not be erased.”
Weekly Citizen has information that Murkomen plans to introduce the impeachment motion through Arror MCA Christopher Chemosong who is also the assembly’s deputy speaker.
Issues being pursued to nail Tolgos are corruption at the county, nepotism in employment, skewed tender awards that favour the governor family members including in-laws and ghost workers in the county.
