Former National Irrigation Board managing director Daniel Barasa has recorded statements with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations on matters surrounding the Galana Irrigation Scheme.
Barasa who ran for Busia governorship on Jubilee ticket has always faced questions as to why he singlehandedly awarded multi-million tenders to favoured firms without going through competitive process as required by law. Among the beneficiaries is a firm associated with former Thika East MP Alice Ng’ang’a.
Surprisingly, even out of NIB, Barasa has been pushing for Ng’ang’a to be paid pending bills running into millions of shillings but are suspicious.
Barasa married Wahome and together, they run educational institutions located in Kiambu county. The award of tenders to her firm was a conflict of interest as Barasa was bound to benefit from the proceedings in one way or another contrary to Chapter Six of the Constitution on leadership and integrity whose pegs he violated.
