Gideon Moi, Isaac Ruto in secret talks about alliance

Former  Bomet county governor Isaac Ruto is back on the drawing board with the aim of charting his future in the world of politics. This is happening as word has it that the former county boss is engaged in talks with Baringo senator Gideon Moi.

Isaac Ruto has been working on three options to remain relevant politically. First option is to go silent for a while and remain neutral in both Kipsigis, Kalenjin and national politics but concentrate on making his party CCM more active, vibrant and relevant come 2022. This will help him negotiate with any side that will be a force in that year’s general elections.

The second option is to join the Jubilee side like way Senator Moi did by not necessary dissolving his CCM outfit. The CCM boss who is said to be pushing for this option wants,  like young Moi, to be independent and not play second fiddle to the DP William Ruto as he charts his own political destiny. Here, Isaac Ruto has to wait and see how DP Ruto presidential ambitions keep on unfolding.

The third option is to work with Jubilee but divorce and join Gideon in 2022, bring on board their own supporters and form a new coalition bringing national faces such as ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Governor Alfred Mutua  Maendeleo Chap Chap just to name but a few.

Ruto was a co-principal in Nasa and represented its face in Rift Valley. After he was defeated, he shifted base to Jubilee and even campaigned for Uhuru Kenyatta re-election at the famous Kaptagat stadium,  Kericho county. It has emerged that Ruto’s move to join Jubilee was not received well by opponents led by Bomet governor Lorna Laboso. Laboso defeated him and her fear is come 2022, using his newfound political love with the DP, will endear him to voters. Isaac Ruto is planning to reclaim his seat in 2022. Laboso is said to be doing all at her disposal to have the DP sideline Isaac Ruto.

Other sources say, aware that if he engaged the former governor directly will cause schisms in Jubilee, the DP decided to have president Uhuru himself bring him on board.

Prior to August 8 polls, the former Council of Governors chairman mounted anti-Jubilee campaigns in Rift Valley Kipsigis dominated areas that helped Raila Odinga garner 30pc in Bomet county.

Analysts say Rutto just like Senator Moi, was fighting  the DP in Rift Valley political supremacy wars. His CCM party fielded candidates to take on Jubilee ones.

In his political camp were former MP Zakayo Cheruiyot of Kuresoi South, Davy Koech, Patrick Ole Ntutu, Narok West and Emurua Dikir MP Johana Ngeno. Cheruiyot never lost but was a victim of computer generated results.

At one time, he was made a Kipsigis spokesman. This did not go down well with those opposed to him and they paid Kalenjin Myoot Council of Elders led by chairman Paul Leleito to denounce the installation claiming it was a curse.

Many read as part of Raila move to split the Kalenjin community and disintegrate it into various sub tribes of Kipsigis, Tugens, Nandis, Keiyos, Marakwets and Sabaots.

Jubilee Bomet county chairman, Bernard Mutai  was one of those who plotted and paid elders to oppose the move saying Isaac Ruto was trying to split the community for his personal benefits.

Mutai said Ruto was not after the good of the Kipsigis who he was hiding behind saying he was after South Rift which was his target and it is said he still wants to be recognised as the Kipsigis kingpin.

Analysts say his party has made a mark in national politics after it won seven county assembly seats in Narok and Bomet counties. It has also two MPs sitting in national assembly. They are Chepalungu MP Gideon Koske and Narok West Gabriel Togoyo.

Ruto was at Chebaraa Primary School in Chepalungu to cast his vote for Uhuru during the presidential rerun boycotted by Nasa. Gideon Moi was also to vote for Uhuru in Baringo.
