Supremacy battle is shaping up in Kajiado politics ahead of the 2022 general elections. One camp out to control the county politics and allied to deputy president William Ruto is led by Kajiado South MP Juda Katoo Metito, senator Philip Mpaayei and Mary Seneta (nominated senator).
Already, Kajiado South MP Katoo Ole Metito has of late shifted to Ruto camp. Metito was recently at Karen Ruto residence with a powerful delegation from his constituency.Already talk is rife, deputy president is grooming Metito to face governor Joseph Ole Lenku come 2022.
As a result of Ruto dealing with Metito, Ole Lenku has worked on his political camp to counter the move. The governor is a key player in the building bridges initiative. The governor camp has MPs Joseph Manje (Kajiado North) George Sunkuyia (Kajiado West), Elija Memusi (Kajiado Central) and assembly speaker Johnson Osoi.
Then we have the so-called rebels in Kajiado politics. Although seen to be leaning towards BBI, they do not get on well with Ole Lenku or Ruto camp. The group is charting about a different strategy in Kajiado politics.
It has MP Peris Tobiko (Kajiado East), former governor David Nkedianye, Francis Meja ex-National Transport and Safety Authority director Alex Magelo, former Nairobi county speaker and Peter Mositet the former senator.
The Ruto camp has organized local MCAs to meet the deputy president at his Karen residence. To counter, Ole Lenku camp has invited to government officials in the region.
Among those who have endorsed Ole Lenku camp are CS Fred Matiang’i (Interior), Mutahi Kagwe (Health) and Keriako Tobiko (Environment). Those well versed with state political game in Kajiado politics reveal a move to reunite Ole Lenku and Peris’ group is on.
