A leadership crisis is brewing at the Machakos Baptist Presbyterian Secondary School in Machakos town after the principal fell out with the school’s sponsor over procurement irregularities among other things.
The principal Benjamin Kyalo is being accused by the sponsor of executing unlawful procurement deals to his friends and more so to civil servants which is conflict of interest.
According to the sources from the school, the principal is also said to have differed with a number of teachers who accuse him of unnecessary harassment resulting to extremely poor performance in KCSE.
One of the affected teachers has already written a protest letter to the both local TSC and ministry of Education in Nairobi.
The principal is accused of running the school singlehandedly carrying out affairs without the knowledge of the sponsor.
As a result the sponsor feels that since the principal has gone to extreme of doing things by himself without involving the sponsor he should be transferred out of the school.
Up to the closure of the school due to coronavirus epidemic crisis, leadership atmosphere in the school was not conducive owing to the situation.
At one time the school’s BOM met with the aggrieved parties to iron out the differences but after one day part of the key sponsors lodged a complaint at the Machakos subcounty director of education John Mutemi, expressing their dissatisfaction with what transpired in the reconciliation meeting.
In fact, the sponsor told the director how arrogant the principal was and how he does things the way he likes without following due process.
According to the sponsor, the only solution is to remove the principal out of the school for things to work in harmony.
Mutemi confirmed having received the school’s complaint and said one day after the two warring parties reconciled, one of them reported to his office saying he was not satisfied and he wanted action be taken by the office against the Principal.
