A man from Nandi county died after being involved in a traffic road accident in Eldoret town. Efforts to have him admitted to the intensive care unit at hospital within the Uasin Gishu did not bear fruits as the hospital authorities demanded Sh50,000 downpayment.
Allan Kipyego was taken to the hospital by good samaritans but doctors demanded Sh50,000 before admitting him to ICU, with one doctor even claiming he was wasting his time without money as another patient had already paid to be attended to.
“I’m out and about looking for space for him in ICU but they are putting money before life. Everywhere I go, they are asking for a deposit of Sh50,000 and yet what I have in my pocket is only Sh12,000,” the good samaritan posted on his Facebook page.
Village mates led by Chelimo Angie raised concern on the manner in which the hospital management behaved.
