A Meru MCA wants Governor Kiraitu Murungi to explain why face mask tenders were allocated to only two entities. Abothuguchi Central MCA Ayub Bundi who is also the leader of the minority has revealed that Meru county finance
department is out to fleece public funds using the pandemic.
Questions have been raised why the tender was not awarded to technical institutions, polytechnics and Meru Youth Service but to two rich personalities in Meru county. Weekly Citizen has documents showing the tenders were given to Meru Uniforms and Sawa Sawa Uniforms to manufacture the face masks. The county was purchasing 80,000 face masks at a cost of Sh2.4 million.
Abothuguchi West MCA Muriithi Muthuri is bitter that his request to the county government to have face masks produced by Githongo Polytechnic in his ward was ignored. Gacheri Muthuri, a nominated MCA said polytechnics and volunteers willing to manufacture the masks were sidelined for personal interests.
