Residents of Kakamega county are up in arms with a retired lands officer who is extorting money from them the moment they seek lands services in the county government offices located at Block C in the provincial administration offices in Kakamega town.
They decried that the officer who is supposed to have vacated the lands offices after retiring, is on the loose extorting from the desperate residents who check in the Kakamega lands offices for help.
It is said Daves Zadock Magina who worked as a clerk in the lands adjudication and settlement offices for over 30 years, has now moved to the lands offices in Kakamega masquerading as the lands registrar extorting from the helpless residents.
Those who launched the complaints said Magina has turned the lands offices in Kakamega into his private offices and extortion den where those seeking services are to pay him.
The members of the public want the ministry of Lands to evict him from the offices. They decried that Magina has gone to the extent of doing document verification and assessments, the duties that are reserved for the lands registrar.
Already members of the public are contemplating to launch their complaint to the police to inquire why Magina is still operating at the lands offices and yet he has retired and why he has turned the lands offices into his private entity.
