A lady arrested last month for allegedly attempting to bribe anti-corruption officials with Sh1 million is a secretary of Kenya Ports Authority officer Anthony Muhanji.
Muhanji is a senior works officer at KPA and his section initiated the controversial awarding of an oil terminal tender at the port of Mombasa.
Muhanji operates a private office along Nkrumah Road in Mombasa where the lady is working as his secretary.
Muhanji who rubs shoulders with the high and mighty at the port and the Transport ministry has been a junior officer at the port of Mombasa and his rise is the talk at the port.
Sources say, fearing arrest, Muhanji has been operating secretly making technical appearance at the Superintendent of Works office at Kapenguria also known as New Service Area.
The KPA officer is a middleman and broker in tender deals at the port of Mombasa and efforts by the anti-corruption agency to arrest him in the past have been futile. He boasts of compromising Coast EACC officers.
Anti-corruption officials have not charged the lady who was arrested with Sh1 million yet a source said she is known to them.
Muhanji is alleged to be under the protection of some senior officials in government at Transport ministry and drops the name of EACC chairman Eliud Wabukala as being his relative.
Muhanji has always been chest thumping that he is untouchable and has been living more luxuriously than his bosses at the department and likes entertaining women with his riches.
The anti-corruption agency is now facing an acid test as to whether it will arrest Muhanji to face alleged criminal charges. Concerned parties now want directorate of criminal investigations headed by George Kinoti to take over investigations.
